Toyota cuts staff PAY by 10% to avoid layoffs

What a novel idea I wonder how many people would take a pay cut to save jobs of there fellow workers.

Maybe even a better idea would be a sliding scale based upon a full time wage.

Less than   50,000 a year   0% reduction

Less than 100,000 a year   5% reduction

Less than 200,000 a year 10% reduction

Less than 500,000 a year 15% reduction

More than 500,000 a year 20% reduction

I bet it would secure 100's of thoushands of jobs and than stimulate the economy by introducing confidence of the average person to spend money.

Wool Carpet vs Synthetic

I wonder why with approximately 97 percent of all carpet in North America is produced using synthetic fibers, that a way of reducing oil usage would be to ban Synthetic carpet and make carpet only from Wool and Natural products, cotton & hessian. Wool is durable, resilient, fire resistant and it's a renewable resource!

Sound Relief Concert Melbourne MCG

Had the fortune to go to Sound Relief a concert that went for 10.5 hrs at the MCG to support the recent bushfire victims of Melbourne and flood victims of Queensland here in Australia. Awesome gig some of the best bands in the world at a great venue highlights for me and busty rusty were Paul Kelly singing  Leaps and Bounds (a song that mentions the MCG the home of Cricket and Australian Rules Football and the 1956 Olympic Venue) he also did To Her Door it was fantastic to see even the youth of Australia know this song, Split Enz 6 Months in a Leaky Boat, Midnight Oil Blue Sky Mining and King of the Mountain, Liam Finn what an awesome multi talented indiviual but with a father like Tim Finn and an Uncle Niel Finn what would you expect. So many great bands awesome time relieved a lot of my youth and live crosses to the Sydney concert that was occuring at the same time fantastic.

Tough Times

Well the economic downturn has effected me so I am brushing off my resume and hitting the road looking for work. To all my friends at Quest I hope that 2009 is a great year for you all, I am taking some time off to look at what direction I should take, as I already have a number of job offers suprisingly most of them back in the USA. I would like to remain independent for a while and do some reviews on SQL Software products as I always feel that the ones that I've read leave me still wanting more information. So stay tuned and I'll keep you all posted.

The Cost of Training

lot of people have asked me what it costs Ashlie to ride at the level she is now at.

I won't go into horse cost because the vary a lot depending on age and experience.

Over a year the cost of owning a horse that is competing can be summed into a few broad areas.

Horse Costs

  1. Food cost $50 a week thats $2600 per horse a year
  2. Foot Care having the blacksmith out every 6 weeks to shoe the horse $100 to $120 a shoeing adds up to $1000
  3. Worming and other Vet bills normally allow around $1000 a year
  4. Clipping a horse hair cut normally twice a year for a total of $250

Training Costs

  1. 2 lessons a week for an hour per lesson $110 per lesson $11440 (she could actually use 2 lessons a day)
  2. Training Clinics normally about 4 a year and anywhere from $200 to $500 so say $1500 a year

Personal Costs

  1. Ashlie goes through 3 pairs of horse riding short boots $300a pair a total of $900
  2. Jodphurs the pants horse riders wear normally 5 cheap ones at $150 and 2 expensive ones at $300 total for the year $1350
  3. A good riding jacket $500
  4. Two helmets a year the rule is if you fall off and hit your head the helmet goes in the bin and the best helmets are not cheap so again another $1000 for the year
  5. Each month I give Ashlie $500 to cover miscellanous expenses so thats $6000 a year
  6. Competition entry fees can range from $50 to $300 a comp so you can expect to spend $3000 a year

Her total cost she currently has three horse in work is close to $40000 a year to keep her in work and training so she can make 2012 or 2016 olympics
